Potty Training Fun

Oh how potty training is so much fun! ... Said no one ever.

Carter has just turned 2 last month and we have started potty training about 2 weeks ago. So far it has been pretty interesting but also successful for the most part. Unlike a lot of moms who have told me their potty training adventures with boys,  I decided to teach Carter to stand when he pees. Instead of doing pull ups all of the time, I started buying regular underwear put him in those while at home. Since I am a stay at home mom it made this part a lot easier. He did not enjoy peeing in his underwear! Because of this, he started to tell me when he had to pee within a day. The first couple times standing at the toilet was pretty traumatic for the both of us to be honest. Eventually we got it down though, with a little guidance from my husband. Obviously I cannot show him how to do it myself..

Once he saw how fun it was to pee in the toilet like his daddy, that part got a lot easier. He will pee just about anywhere! He will go outside, in public restrooms, behind a car in a park and even next to the car in the Walmart parking lot. Yes, I let him pee in the parking lot. He is a boy and they have the luxury of going just about anywhere as long as they are discreet. The best part is that he holds it most of the time. Crazy enough he wakes himself up in the middle of the night because he has to pee. Now getting him to pee in the middle the night is difficult but you have to commit!

Now poop is a whole different adventure. Carter is much more resistant to pooping on the potty. We have been trying all sorts of different methods to try and make it fun and easy but so far nothing has worked. When he poops in his underwear we have to dump it in the toilet, flush, then wash them out in the toilet. It seems like it would be difficult but it is kind of like having cloth diapers. Though a toilet sprayer would help a lot! I may need to invest in one..
For the last couple days we have tried just letting him run around naked and keeping a very close eye on him so we can throw him on the toilet before anything comes out. So far he just holds it waits till nap time or bed time to poop in his pull ups (we just use these for sleeping).

Today, we went on a little outing and in the car he said he had to poop. So I immediately pulled into the grocery store parking lot and ran inside. Well he didn't go so we packed up and went on the the mall. OF course, once we stopped he said he had to go yet again. I ran him to the nearest restroom and we sat in there for about 30 minutes with him crying and echoing throughout the bathroom. Not 2 minutes after we left the restroom he of course went in his underwear. So, I made him walk to the opposite end of the mall in his dirty underwear. Washing dirty undies in a public restroom is a little gross, not going to lie. I had forgot to pack a plastic bag or something just in case he soiled his undies so I had to steal one from their bathroom. So ALWAYS bring something just in case underwear gets soiled.

Good luck potty training!! Please share your fun adventures!
